I have been in California for almost 2 months and started to get used to the life style here. I have been sent to USA right after politic tsunami take place in Malaysia. However, I have still pretty up-to-date with Malaysia's politic news through Malaysiakini website. Thanks to the web news as I will never believe a single news reported by our local newspaper.
Well, most of the issues brought up like education quota, NEP, corruption and etc, I would like to summarize to only one question - Why can't Malaysia be like USA or Singapore? I believe most of these issues come out because of racism politics which Malaysia government used to practice for more than 50 years since Merdeka. The current govenrment never meant to change until politics tsunami comes which makes Malaysia continue to lack behind the world.
One thing I am pretty impressed here in USA is, when you ask the people "Who are you?". The very first answer they will give you is "I am an American" regardless of the White, the Black or the Asian. If you were to ask the same question in Malaysia, people will answer "I am Malays", "I am Malaysian Chinese" or "I am Malaysian Indian". Even the people here would have ask me "You are not the Malaysia native resident (Bumiputra), don't you?". What a shame on Malaysia, after 50 years of independent we still divide ourselves among different ethnics with so obvious.
Look at the education system in USA or Singapore, there is no such thing as quota system. Thos who can make it will be accepted to the varsity regardless of what is the color of your skins. There is no such thing as the class must consist of how many percentage of white...Although they does not have quota system, the white is still the dominant of the class. Why does this happen? One thing for sure is, if you want to remain dominant in the class, make sure you work hard and smart. With the affort you put in, I am sure you will still dominant the class regardless of the quota system comes into picture.
Only those with the lack of confidence need quota system to remains their dominant in a class or university. Come on, we are in the 21st century now, the world is moving forward! We can't still rely on quota system and NEP to rule the country, this will make us behind time, eventually it will be overtake by those developing countries like China and India to the most significant.
Together we as Malaysian regardless of race working together to develop Malaysia to be a fully developed country in years time. Live on "Bangsa Malaysia"!!!
